For much of the international market, the primary standard covering busbar supports is the IEC 61439 series, which applies to low-voltage switchgear and controlgear assemblies. Within this series of standards, a range of performance characteristics and design verification requirements are defined that low-voltage busbar supports must satisfy.

For North American markets, there are several applicable UL standards. These include UL 1558, which contains detailed requirements relating to materials and performance, as well as UL 891 for switchboards.
